Established in 1951, today Yerucham has about 10,000 residents.  The community is very mixed with new immigrants being the original settlers in the 1950s, in the 1970’s haredi residents moved to the area, in the 1980’s two Jewish Zionist garinim joined those already there and in the 1990’s there was an influx of immigrants from the FSU.

Religiously, the community is very diverse as reflected by its different groups of residents.  The town has a multitude of community activities; cultural and educational run by the many formal and informal education organizations found in the community.

The local municipality see efforts in the area of Jewish, Israel, Zionist culture to be of great importance, and strives to provide a place for all of the different and varied identities that are Yerucham.
